Prayer Practice

What if our life on the earth is our prayer? What if we choose one single act—calling someone in need of love, preparing a meal for a friend, visiting someone who aches with loneliness—and imagine that action as our prayer for this day?

We are agents of the divine spirit on the earth. The kindness of God flows through our hands, our words, our work, our actions. Today, pray with your hands. Not by clasping your hands in a holy gesture, but by using them to bring some good and necessary gift to someone in need.

We can also use these small tasks as an opportunity to expand our practice of centering prayer. At every moment, while eating, speaking, or performing the smallest daily task, we can focus our prayer on this phrase: Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven.
